Most Likely To Make History

Republican Robert S. Mueller III (top) and Democrat John Forbes Kerry, (bottom). St. Paul’s classmates and alumni.

Like Mueller, Kerry opted for a life committed to public service rather than private gain, despite a wealth of family connections and a top shelf education.

Like Kerry, Mueller served with distinction in combat during the Viet Nam War, unlike so many of the men who criticize him today.

  1. Oh, please. You can’t seriously think either of these idiots are noble heroes. More like pompous self important ideologues. Kerry should be strung up for treason. Said the lady who also served, in her family tradition.

    1. Agree 100%. A shame Byron has to make this blog political. Both of these guys deserve prison sentences.

  2. One could argue that public service and private gain are not mutually exclusive. Sometimes politicians are also directors and advisors to a number of boards. Altogether, not a modest income. Besides, the international network that one builds at this level is probably worth more than money.

PS: I am reading a book by Martha Craven Nussbaum. As a prominent philosopher, I imagine that she could be mentioned on this blog.

      1. My apologies for this misunderstanding, clearly due to poor syntax… I meant that “as a prominent philosopher [Professor Martha Nussbaum], she could be mentioned on this blog.”

  3. Hi Byron,
looks like someone has hacked your blog. I don’t believe those nonsenses are from your head.

I would kindly ask the hacker to state what have these public servants commissioned.

Medici family members, public servants, commissioned art from Benozzo Gozzoli, Sandro Botticelli, Filippo Lippi, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo ………. and the majority of that art is still here.

What and where is the legacy of these scout boys’ families?

Is there a word “history” in the title?

    1. Robert Mueller is part of a well-respected medical family. His great-grandfather was a founder of Allegheny General Hospital and the Allegheny Health Network in Pittsburgh.

      John Kerry’s family tree includes:
Sir John de Forbes of Scotland
Thomas Dudley, Governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony
Joseph Dudley, Colonial Governor of Massachusetts and member of the British Parliament
Lady Jane Grey, Queen of England and Ireland in the 1500s
US Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr.
Clement Clarke Moore, author of The Night Before Christmas
James Bowdoin, Governor of Massachusetts (Bowdoin College is named after him.)

He is cousin to US President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, US Vice President Aaron Burr, the Bush family, and former Vermont Governor Howard Dean.

While there might not be an inclusive “History of the Kerry Family,” to read the history of Scotland, England and Ireland, the history of jurisprudence in America, and the history of New England is to read the history of the Kerry family.

      Do you have another question?

      1. Hi Fraley,

Thank you. Regarding jurisprudence I advice to read The US Constitution – Article I, Section 10, “No State shall… make any ……..”. Take a look what is in your pocket!

Concerning history of mention countries I suggest reading history of Rome, Venice and Florence first.

The question: What did they commission?!

        Thank you.

  4. I never take a position when it comes to judging specific politicians. No matter how much I do not like things that politicians do or occasionally their character or their beliefs, I will always respect their educational achievements and the office they hold. Perhaps a reread of Byron’s July 2015 post is in order to remind us of exactly what an OMG really is. https://theoldmoneybook.com/2015/07/03/the-danger-of-painting-with-a-broad-brush/

  5. Careful what you wish for, you may well get it.

I predict the probe lead by the St. Midas graduate will yield the same result we saw emerging of WikiLeaks’ publications:

    Nothing.

  6. Some posts age like wine, some like milk.

I would suggest you might be a little out of your wheelhouse here, Byron.

    1. Hi John, thanks for your comment. Actually, I think this one will stand the test of time quite well. The tone and volume of many responses was surprising. Who knew military and public service could be so controversial. – BGT
