Paris Doesn’t Need The Sun Today

Paris doesn’t need the sun today

as traffic inches beneath a sky, slate grey,

and ducks silently convene

on the Seine, dark green,

and pedestrians jog and stride along the quai.

Paris doesn’t need the sun today

it’s golden warmth–un peu chiche;

No, it’s a moody mood

just above a brood

that holds the city in it’s cloud-covered sway.

Paris doesn’t need the sun today

it’s quite content without giddy play;

a thoughtful pause and pose–

coffee just beneath my nose–

and familiar faces in a warm cafe.

No, Paris doesn’t need the sun today

perhaps tomorrow, the newspapers say,

les journaux quite thin in size

with big, thick print for Parisian eyes

who’ve seen too much of history’s wonton way.

No, Paris doesn’t need the sun today.

  1. Very nice indeed. It reminds me of “that” summertime atmosphere. A dramatic sky with the occasional burst of sunlight. It’s amazing for photography, but the mood is even better. People go inside and there is a calm before the storm. In a local café, a coffee, a chat, new friendships.

    Looking forward to more Paris-inspired poetry.
