Education in the Age of Covid-19: The Good News

As great as the challenges seem right now for teachers, students, parents, and administrators, there are bright spots on the education landscape.

Our ever-resourceful Foreign Correspondent David unearthed some inspiring developments from the UK where individuals and institutions are tackling issues both immediate and longstanding.

First, the Mentor Jr project, which was started during the pandemic to match qualified tutors with students in need of homework assistance. You’ll be very surprised to learn who came up with the idea, and why.

Read all about that HERE.

Second, Eton College, that dusty, 600 year-old institution famously known for spitting out prime ministers, has now turned its attention to helping paramedics, among others.

You can read all about that HERE.

Both articles reflect truly inspiring examples of noblesse oblige, and I’m delighted to share them with you.

This is the way Old Money behaves in a crisis.

Be safe. Enjoy.

Thank you, David.

  1. What a thought-provoking start to the day; thank you for sharing — both Byron and David!

Having enthusiastically poured over the two articles provided, I can’t help but feel that due to the extraordinary largess and effort described, all of us are truly Blessed as a result – both now and in the future And I can’t help but wonder about all of the other similar and – as yet – untold persons/institutions who are also ‘stepping up’!

I stand in respect, gratitude and genuine awe!.

  2. What I think is worth adding is that the young lady behind the Mentor Jr programme converted her tutoring service to an online version in a matter of two days when Covid struck. I discovered this in a separate article. Truly commendable. If only people like her could be attracted to government and leadership.

    1. Amen to that!

      p. s. – I’ve admired your thoughts and words for a long time now. As my granddaughter’s beloved teacher/mentor would say David, – Good job!

Best regards; may you and yours stay safe and well;.

      And thank you!
